Spotted Hamlet - Hypoplectrus Ecosur

The spotted hamlet is pale tan with blue spots on the side of the snout, blue lines on the sides of the head and chest, and thin blue bars on the body. It has two dark red-brown to grey-brown bars on the head — one long bar through the eye and a short one across the nape — and one distinct broad, long, intense bar under the spiny dorsal fin. Behind that bar, rather than continuing with full vertical bars, the body bears 4–5 small, round dark spots along the upper back and tail base, superimposed on three faint bars on the rear of the body. At the base of the tail fin is a pair of dark round spots, one above the other. The pelvic fins are dark brown with a blue outer edge, and the median fins are yellowish with thin blue lines. Unique in the combination of only one fully developed mid-body bar followed by a row of discrete spots along the upper back. It is restricted to the northern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula.
