Bluelipped Hamlet - Hypoplectrus Affinis

The bluelip hamlet has a reddish-brown head, body, dorsal fin, and caudal fin, with the mouth, belly, pelvic fins, and the front portion of the anal fin colored mauve to blue. This combination — a warm brown body with a restricted but vivid mauve-blue wash on the lips and belly — is unique among hamlets. It is the only species where the contrasting color is specifically on the mouth and lower body in that bluish-mauve tone, distinguishing it from the yellowbelly (H. aberrans, yellow below), the shy hamlet (H. guttavarius, yellow head), and the black hamlet (H. nigricans, no contrasting color at all).
